Organised storage in a small footprint
A chest of drawers keeps folded clothes, innerwear, accessories and documents organised and easy to reach, in less floor space than a wardrobe. It's useful in bedrooms, kids' rooms, guest rooms and walk-in closets, and its top doubles as a display surface or dressing area with a mirror above.
What to look for
- Drawer runners: smooth metal channels that support full extension; soft-close is a bonus.
- Drawer depth: deeper bottom drawers for bulky items, shallow top drawers for small things.
- Construction: plywood or solid wood carcass, solid drawer bottoms that don't sag.
- Stability: anchoring to the wall prevents tipping if children pull out drawers.
- Locks: a lockable drawer for valuables.
Sizes
Choose tall and narrow (five or six drawers) for small rooms, or wide and low (three or four drawers) to use under a window or with a mirror above.
