Pulling the living room together
The living room is where families spend evenings, receive guests and watch TV. Beyond the sofa, a few pieces make it work: a TV unit to anchor the room, a centre table within reach of every seat, side tables for lamps and cups, and storage to keep clutter away.
Living room essentials
- TV units: sized to your TV and wall, hiding cables and devices.
- Tea, coffee and centre tables: about two-thirds the length of the sofa.
- Side tables: at arm height beside sofas and chairs.
- Display units: for books, art and keepsakes.
- Seating: sofas, accent chairs and ottomans.
Plan the flow
Keep a 75–90 cm walking path through the room, place the sofa facing the TV at a comfortable viewing distance (about 1.5–2.5 times the screen size), and avoid blocking balcony doors or windows. Matching finishes across the TV unit, centre table and side tables make even a small room look planned.
