Cotton Mattress Making & Repair in detail
Cotton mattresses, made and refilled by hand
A pure cotton mattress (gadda) is still the first choice for many Hyderabad families: it stays cool in summer, gives firm, even support, and, unlike foam, it can be renewed. When a cotton mattress goes flat and lumpy, the cotton inside is compressed, not finished. Opening it, cleaning and carding (fluffing) the cotton, topping it up and re-stitching it brings back most of its original thickness and comfort.
What we do
- New cotton mattresses in any size and thickness, in plain rolled or box-stitched styles, with the cover fabric of your choice.
- Custom sizes for custom beds, diwans, bunk beds, window seats and old frames.
- Refilling old mattresses: opening, cleaning, carding and refilling the cotton, then re-stitching with tufts to hold it in place.
- Mattress repair: torn covers, new covers, re-stitching and re-tufting.
- Pillows and bolsters: new cotton pillows and takiyas, and refilling old ones.
- Foam work: cutting and resizing foam mattresses, replacing foam layers.
Box-stitched or plain gadda?
| Box-stitched cotton mattress | Plain rolled gadda | |
|---|---|---|
| Shape | Stitched side walls keep edges square and firm | Soft rounded edges |
| Best for | Daily use on a bed | Floor use, guests, folding away |
| Storage | Stays flat | Rolls up |
| Holds shape | Longer, cotton stays evenly spread | Needs turning more often |
How refilling works
- WhatsApp a photo of the mattress with its size. We confirm whether refilling is worthwhile.
- We collect the mattress, or you drop it at our Narsingi workshop.
- The cover is opened, the cotton is cleaned and carded, and fresh cotton is added where needed.
- The mattress is re-stitched and tufted, then returned.
Care tips that double a cotton mattress's life
Turn it over every two to three weeks, rotate it head-to-foot, and sun it on a dry day every month or two. Use a washable cover to keep the ticking clean. Refill it when it feels noticeably thinner in the middle rather than waiting until it is completely flat.
