Tea table, coffee table, centre table: the same job
Whether you call it a tea table (teapoy), coffee table or centre table, it's the table in front of the sofa where tea is served, newspapers land and remotes live. The right size and height makes the living room work.
Getting the size right
- Length: about two-thirds the length of the sofa.
- Height: level with the sofa seat or slightly lower, usually 40–45 cm.
- Distance: 40–45 cm from the sofa, close enough to reach a cup, far enough for legs.
- Shape: rectangular for long sofas, round or square for L-shaped sofas and smaller rooms.
Storage helps
A lower shelf, like the slatted shelf on our wooden tea table, keeps magazines, remotes and coasters off the top. Drawers add hidden storage. Tables with nesting stools or ottomans underneath add extra seating for guests.
