Reupholstery strips a sofa back to its frame, checks the joints, springs and webbing, replaces the foam and wadding where needed, and fits new fabric. It is different from a cover: the new fabric is stapled tightly to the frame, so the sofa looks and feels like a new piece. It is the right choice when the fabric is torn, faded or stained, or when you simply want a different colour for a redesigned room.
When reupholstery is worth it
- The frame is solid wood and doesn't wobble or creak badly.
- You like the shape and size of the sofa, especially if it fits an awkward space.
- The sofa has sentimental value, or is a good-quality older piece.
- The foam has also gone soft, so you get new comfort and a new look in one job.
If the frame is particle board that has cracked or swollen, reupholstering it rarely lasts. We will tell you honestly and can make a new sofa instead.
Choosing fabric for a reupholstered sofa
For daily family use, tightly woven textured fabrics and stain-resistant performance fabrics wear best. Velvet looks rich but shows pressure marks. Leatherette is easy to wipe clean but can feel warm in summer. Bring a cushion or photo of your room to the Narsingi showroom and compare swatches in daylight.
