Learn moreRecliner problems and what causes them
A recliner is a sofa with a machine inside. A steel mechanism under each seat lifts the footrest and tilts the back, operated by a handle and cable or, on motorised recliners, by a motor and switch. Most recliner faults come from that mechanism and its connections, not the upholstery.
- Won't recline or won't close: snapped or stretched cable, broken handle, or a jammed mechanism.
- Footrest drops or sags: worn springs or bent linkage on the mechanism.
- Back leans to one side: loose mechanism bolts or a cracked frame mount.
- Motorised recliner dead: power supply, switch, cable or motor fault.
- Peeling or torn cover, sunken seat: upholstery and foam wear, especially common on leatherette recliners.
How we repair recliners
We start by testing the mechanism and connections. Handles, cables and springs can usually be replaced on site. A bent or broken mechanism is replaced with a matching unit at our Narsingi workshop, where we can also re-cover worn panels and replace the foam. For leather and leatherette recliners, see also leather sofa repair.
Book a recliner repair
WhatsApp a short video of the recliner trying to open or close and a photo of the underside if you can. A video tells us more about a mechanism fault than any description.
