Learn moreCastors, bases and armrests: small parts, big difference
A chair that rolls badly, wobbles or has a broken armrest gets pushed aside, even if the seat and back are perfect. These parts take the most knocks: castors roll over cables and hair, plastic bases crack when chairs are dropped or overloaded, and armrests are used to push up from the seat all day.
Castor wheels
Worn castors drag, squeak, leave marks or stop swivelling. Hard nylon castors suit carpet; softer PU castors are quieter and kinder to tiles, marble and wooden floors common in Hyderabad offices and homes. Most castors push in with a standard stem, so the whole set can be swapped quickly.
Star base
A cracked or bent base makes the chair lean or wobble and is a safety risk. Replacement bases come in nylon (standard) and metal (stronger, often chrome or aluminium). The gas lift drops into the centre of the base, so we often check or replace the cylinder at the same time; see gas lift replacement.
Armrests
Loose armrests usually have stripped screws or a cracked mount; broken ones need a matching replacement arm. Adjustable arms can also have worn locking mechanisms. Send a photo of the arm and its mounting so we can match the part.
